    Seasons Greetings

    ORMS.  This year we have:

    • continued to provide a high level of education for our students on Paramedic programmes,
    • become a NAEMT centre,
    • become a Difficult Airway Course centre,
    • continued to provide training to our international students, and
    • welcomed new staff onboard.
    We have enjoyed every minute of 2018 and are really looking forward to 2019. The office will be closed from 1700hrs, 18th December through to 3rd January 2019 for a well-earned rest.  However, spoiler alert, here are just some of our plans for next year:
    • HSE Offshore Medic courses to include remote medicine,
    • Aviation medicine,
    • A new, PG Dip course
    • Highly immersive experiences:
      • Trauma Week
      • Medicine Week
      • Paediatrics Week
    • And more…

    We have spaces left on our Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) course running in December. PHTLS is internationally recognised as the leading continuing education programme for pre-hospital emergency trauma care.  PHTLS is accredited by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT). The course is aimed at any person engaged in the delivery of pre-hospital care to trauma patients.  It is taught in accordance with the PHTLS syllabus but also has a strong emphasis on hazardous and industrial rescue environments.     HEMS transport time

    This article raises the old conundrum of time vs distance, to HEMS or not to HEMS, that is the question. It would be interesting to see a study conducted in the U.K. to include other factors such as:

    • The impact in time when transferring to landing sites away from hospital
    • The impact from hospital delays in availability of ambulances for pick up

    Human Factors in Hazardous Environments

    Human Factors in Hazardous Environments course develops your knowledge and skills in the application of Human Factors (HF) principles in a variety of hazardous environments that you may encounter when providing care or rescue activities. You learn through a mixture of online learning and a 5 day workshop where you will be “thrown in” to environments including:

    • Water Rescue
    • Working at Height
    • Confined and Restricted Spaces
    • Tactical Considerations
    • Fire and Rescue Searches
