Leaving Lockdown

We’re preparing for coming out of Lockdown at last.  You will notice a number of changes to the way we do things and the services we offer, in an effort to adapt to “the new normal”.

We will be following all safety advice and best practice, and there will be hygiene stations in all buildings, training areas and vehicles.

We will be limiting numbers on site to enable us to meet all social distancing requirements during our training periods and outside of them for those staying with us. This will mean that we cannot provide the same number of programmes on site that we usually do.

Offsite, client premises training will also be available from the same time, again subject to travel permissions and with all risk assessments in place.

COVID-19 Statement – Education Announcement

In light of the current UK government guidance with regards, COVID-19, social distancing, education establishments, etc. We regret to inform you that all students currently studying with ORMS on our Paramedic Programmes will be placed on Temporary Suspension of Studies until 1st September 2020.

This applies to both of our programmes, across all cohorts and years and will commence at 17:00hrs Friday 20th March 2020.

It has been a difficult decision to stop your studies mid-semester, but this is a unique and rapidly changing outbreak and is unprecedented in terms of the impact it is having on almost every aspect of life in the UK at the moment.

We recognise that this will be a disappointment to our students and that you may have questions with regards to this announcement. You will also understand that ORMS is working incredibly hard to minimise the impact that this will have on everyone. So, we would like to make an appeal to all students and practice educators, please ask any questions through the following link to minimise the impact that this will have on the office through phone calls:

We will, of course, continue to monitor the situation and if matters change then we will make further announcements.  We will also be in touch closer to September to inform each student of their new module dates and timetables when we restart.

In the meantime, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your understanding and look forwards to seeing you all again very soon.

We will post updates as we go but please do not rely on our information as your source. Please ensure you follow the latest advice from UK Government and get your information from trusted sources such as the Coronavirus Page on the NHS website.

Courses for responders in Hazardous and Non-Hazardous Environments

Bridging models for HEMT and FREC qualifications

We have been working closely with Qualsafe Awards (QA) to provide ORMS students with a clear and concise pathway to gaining Ofqual regulated prehospital care qualifications, which will also provide FREC Learners with a route to progress into a career in Hazardous or Non-Hazardous medical response.

Dual Qualification

We can now offer our students the opportunity to achieve certification in one or both awards (by sitting some additional components):

  • Hazardous Environment First Aid (HEFA) students can also work towards the QA Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) (L3 FREC)
  • Hazardous Environment First Responder (HEFR) students can also work towards the QA Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) (L4 FREC)
  • Hazardous Environment Medical Technician (HEMT) can also work towards the QA Level 5 Diploma in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) (L5 FREUC)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Bridging Models

Students can now apply for RPL against either qualification; if successful they will need to attend a short bridging model (see table) to achieve the additional qualification.

More Information

Qualsafe Awards (QA) Prehospital Care Qualifications

The QA FREC courses are specifically designed for those seeking a career in the NHS or private ambulance services as an emergency care assistant, intermediate ambulance practitioner, event medical provider, associate practitioner or healthcare assistant.  They are also ideal for those who are looking to work within the event and security medical sector.

ORMS Hazardous Environment Medical Courses

The ORMS Hazardous Environment courses are specifically designed for those providing medical care in hazardous or austere environments.  They provide the learner with the same knowledge and skills expected in non-hazardous environments but ensure that the learner is prepared for the challenges faced in these non-standard areas of practice.

Originally designed to meet the needs of those working in Search and Rescue (SAR) Helicopters, the courses would also be appropriate for those working in the event medical sector, lowland SAR, Mountain Rescue, Military, Police and Fire & Rescue services.

This suite of courses is utilised nationally and internationally by SAR Helicopter providers as it is highly focused on the provision of care whilst understanding the physical constraints that the environment may impose.
