ORMS was formed out of a collaboration between two established training companies working in the fields of Specialist Rescue (The Outreach Organisation Ltd) and hazardous environment medicine (Medic Skills Ltd).

In late spring 2011 the opportunity to tender for the provision of medical training for the Ministry of Defence, Search and Rescue Force arose. After examination of the tender requirements, it was decided that a collaborative approach between Outreach Rescue and Medic Skills could best provide the quality and robustness of service required by the customer. Joint application resulted in the award of the contract and ORMS was born.

We offer a variety services including clinical governance consultancy and education & training opportunities, from short courses through to longer programmes of study. These courses are designed to take you from an introduction to paramedic science up to being eligible to register with the Health & Care Professions Council as a Paramedic. In addition, we offer further courses to enhance your knowledge and skills even further.

Outreach has been providing rescue and safety training for over 18 years. Our philosophy has always been that time spent in the early stages of skills development is time well spent – we have never subscribed to the “Fast Track” school of thinking.

Outreach’s Emergency Service customers have some unique problems to contend with. Specialist rescue skills are still relatively new and not something that is “Core “ in the sense of being called upon daily, weekly or even monthly. The result of this is, inevitably, a degree of skills fade that has to be countered through regular consolidation training and development. A solid base of initial training also helps here. Having an understanding of why things are done provides a base to build on that reduces the impact of skill fade.

Their facilities and high-quality water venues/conditions allow us to develop skills during our courses to a high level. It is the time spent on the difficult edge transition, in the complex water conditions or with a deteriorating casualty that makes for a good rescue team member and is the reason that many of our courses are timetabled at a day or so longer than some other providers.

Practice and repetition of skills in initial training is of immense importance and pays dividends later.

Medic Skills is a medical company like few others in the marketplace. Offering bespoke, high-quality clinical education programmes using up-to-date teaching methods supported with appropriate practical training aids, make sure that each participant has ample opportunity to gain “hands-on” experience during the training sessions.

Course participants are able to access out-of-hours learning packages which are supported through the latest learning technology applications. Course materials and teaching approaches reflect the diversity of your staff and patients.

Our senior clinical tutors are all graduate health professionals with nationally recognised teaching qualifications; they have extensive experience in the delivery of prehospital care in a variety of environments. We can also offer clinical systems and education consultancy services but we will never try and sell you something that you do not need.

Our staff have had experience in the design and delivery of education programmes for NHS Ambulance Services, Police and Fire Authorities. In addition, our staff have contributed to the development of University programmes for the education and training of Paramedics.
